We envisage a village rather than a monolithic block. Certainly no reference to period architecture (ie. Tuscan) but rather a contemporary design is mooted. The key-words contemporary farm house had been suggested. A combination of different roofs and covered walkways leading across decks and past inner courts will add to the feel of easy flow.

It has been suggested to use natural materials and a muted exterior palette. Contrasting interior components of dark and light had been referred to by the client (see scrap book material). The use of stone and wood had been requested. An attempt at creating a warm, rather than a sterile environment, will be made. It goes without saying that the use of natural light is very important.

The use of picture windows and clear story windows as well as aluminium stacking doors leading onto the exterior had been suggested (see scrap book). There are amazing views that should be incorporated through the use of these elements. Also the use of high ceilings and exposed timber rafters can be incorporated. (see scrap book). Built –in niches and display areas to be used as an architectural feature.

Double sided gas fireplaces (living and bathroom) should be installed.
We strongly want to recommend the use of passive design elements as well as renewable energy sources to enhance the energy efficiency of the property. A more detailed analysis to follow.

A water wise indigenousness garden with rain water harvesting to be used. A certain amount of irrigated lawn to be provided. The use of natural grasslands meeting the parameter of the lawn as well as mowed paths leading to a singular big tree as a destination.

Ultimately we would like to design a home that is site and need specific, timeless and stylish, non pretentious ….a haven of serenity and beauty that would exude integrity and warmth.
